Québec City, Tuesday, April 6, 2010 – The unveiling of the program of the Manif d’art 5, the 2010 edition of the Québec City biennial, took place this morning at café-bar Le Cercle. From May 1 to June 13, under the theme Catastrophe? Quelle catastrophe!, the event will present the work of fifty artists from here and elsewhere in various indoor and outdoor venues. Determined to create an unforgettable event, the organizers have spared no effort to crown this fifth edition with success.

The artists selected by curator Sylvie Fortin, editor-in-chief of the magazine Art Papers, will allow the public to immerse itself in widely interpreted versions of catastrophe. On a planetary or personal scale, omnipresent catastrophe will not hesitate to make itself palpable in the streets of Québec City this season.

Inspired and underpinned by the work of internationally renowned artists, the Manif d’art 5 will be, more than ever, an artistic window onto the world. The program, rich in recent or yet unseen work, will unsettle every category of art lover. Novice viewers will revel in the accessibility of a theme that transcends borders, while visitors with more experience will be thrilled to witness work created specifically for the Manif d’art 5.

An internationally important event, the Québec City biennial will also showcase the work of Québec artists, allowing its broad-based audience to fully experience an exciting cultural locus.
