Espace Quatre Cents – Art Biennial 2026

A biennial rooted in place. Located along the river, in the heart of Québec City’s Old Port.

The landmark exhibition

February 28 to April 19, 2026

Located in the historic Old Port, Espace Quatre Cents is a bright, modern art gallery bathed in natural light. Each winter, this iconic cultural venue transforms into a must-see stage for contemporary art.

Manif d’art – the only winter contemporary art biennial in North America – takes over Espace Quatre Cents from February 28 to April 19, 2026.

Curated by Didier Morelli, the central exhibition Splitting Ice / Briser la glace explores climate-related transformations of ice and water, questioning our relationship to winter, to bodies, and to the living world. This major artistic project brings together Québec-based and international artists, celebrating the richness of the local scene and the unique identity of the Biennial.

An Immersive and Engaged Exhibition

Splitting Ice / Briser la glace

Under the direction of curator Didier Morelli, this flagship exhibition addresses contemporary issues tied to winter, climate change, bodily transformation, and collective memory. It offers a sensory, critical journey through powerful, thought-provoking artworks.

Occupying the full modular space of Espace Quatre Cents, the exhibition features large-scale installations and immersive works shaped around the winter theme—an artistic encounter designed to surprise, move, and engage.

The venue will be open to the public from February 28 to April 19, 2026, presenting new works created specifically for this edition of Manif d’art.

Among the artists already announced are major figures such as Françoise Sullivan, a pillar of Québec art, and Maureen Gruben, an Inuk artist whose practice explores Arctic environments. Alongside them, more than forty artists from Québec, Canada, and abroad will anchor this edition and highlight the vitality of contemporary art in Québec City.
